How it works
We consider submissions of fine art, rare and notable books, objets d'art and furniture. Please provide clear photographs together with as much information as you have concerning the artist, maker or author, title or description, date, medium or materials, dimensions, condition and provenance.
You may either state the price you require or ask Alderton & Grey to provide an indicative valuation. A valuation is an opinion for the purpose of considering a possible sale and is not a formal valuation for insurance, probate, tax, lending or other regulated purposes unless expressly agreed in writing.
Submission does not oblige Alderton & Grey to accept, list or sell a work. We may ask for further photographs, documentation, inspection, condition information or specialist opinion before deciding whether to offer an item.
The consignment process
Tell us about the work
Provide clear photographs, dimensions, condition, provenance and everything you know about attribution or authorship.
We assess suitability
We may request further images, documents, inspection or specialist advice before deciding whether the work is suitable for sale.
Set sale instructions
If accepted, price expectations, commission and any material expenses or special arrangements are agreed before marketing.
Seller commission
If we accept a work and it is sold through Alderton & Grey, the seller will be charged a commission equal to 20% of the final sale price. This commission will be deducted from the sale proceeds before the balance is paid to the seller.
Any additional direct expense - for example specialist photography, restoration, independent authentication, storage or exceptional transport - will only be charged to the seller where it has been agreed in advance. Any VAT legally chargeable on our commission or other services will be dealt with in accordance with the applicable tax rules and the written consignment agreement.
Seller proceeds are paid only after the purchaser's funds have been received and cleared, required AML/KYC checks have been completed, and any applicable cancellation or return period has expired or otherwise been resolved.
AML/KYC and ownership information
Before a work can be accepted for sale, and in any event before sale proceeds are released, clients may be required to provide identification and other information required by applicable anti-money-laundering, sanctions and know-your-customer regulations. This may include photographic identification, proof of address, beneficial ownership information, source-of-funds or source-of-wealth information where appropriate, and evidence of ownership or authority to sell the property.
By submitting a work, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you are the owner of the work or are duly authorised by the owner to offer it for sale.
Submit a work
Complete the form below and upload clear photographs. For paintings and objects, please include the front, back, signatures or marks and any labels where possible. For books, include the binding, title page, publication details and any inscriptions or condition issues.
Privacy: submitted photographs and personal information are used to assess the proposed consignment, communicate with you, conduct due diligence and, where a work is accepted, administer the sale.
